Vote Nevada Update 8/18/2022

Vote Nevada Supporters,

Here is the recording from our Vote Nevada event with Civil Talk’s co-founder Matt Cremins.  I am sure you will find this new civic engagement tool as interesting as I have:

Our Mental and Behavioral Health Committee heard a presentation on the pilot program in this article that describes how we are helping rural law enforcement provide services to community members experiencing mental health issues: https://thenevadaindependent.com/article/pilot-project-equipping-rural-police-with-telehealth-tools-for-mental-health-crises

It is a fascinating program that is being funded by a time-limited grant, so, if it works, we will need to engage in sustainability advocacy in three years.  Here is the committee meeting recording: https://vote-nevada.news/Mental-Health-Pilot-Program

You can read about some of the issues with the new 988 crisis program here: https://www.nevadacurrent.com/2022/08/18/a-month-into-988-call-volumes-up-but-state-behavioral-health-infrastructure-isnt/

And you can read about the Legislative Interim Finance Committee allocating quite a lot of money to children’s mental health here: https://thenevadaindependent.com/article/parents-lawmakers-praise-200-million-investment-in-public-and-mental-health-funding

Here are event reminders and some new events:

Tomorrow, 8/19/2022, a Nevada Voters First team, consisting of myself, Doug Goodman, and Cesar Marquez, will host a Reddit AMA (Ask Me Anything) about Ballot Question 3, which will create open primaries with ranked choice voting in the general election in 2026.  You need to create a Reddit account to ask questions, which you can do here: https://www.reddit.com/

You can ask questions in the AMA here: https://www.reddit.com/r/Nevada/comments/wm1tkp/ama_open_primaries_rcv_0819_at_2p_pt/

You can see the AMA questions and answers without becoming a Reddit member at the above link as well.
