Vote Nevada Supporters,
We are heading into week 2 of the legislative session. You can view this upcoming week’s calendar of committee hearings and floor sessions here: https://www.leg.state.nv.us/App/NELIS/REL/82nd2023
Reminder: You can access all the Vote Nevada advocacy tools and training recordings here: https://vote-nevada-blog.org/recorded-advocacy-resources/
And you can watch recordings of Vote Nevada Community Meetings here: https://vote-nevada-blog.org/vote-nevada-community-meeting-recordings/
I highly recommend watching Department of Corrections Director James Dzurenda’s presentation from Friday, February 10th. You can access his presentation by going here https://www.leg.state.nv.us/Video/ and then clicking on Assembly Committee on Judiciary. When the video player opens, click on Agenda, and then click on Presentation by the Nevada Department of Corrections in the Agenda. This will fast-forward the recording to his presentation.
After watching the presentation, I am sure you will agree that our mental health crisis must be addressed now, so, let’s come together as Nevadans to start fixing these problems by supporting Director Dzurenda’s budget and bills.
Similarly, in the 2022 primary election, 4,068 mail-in ballots were not counted due to errors such as the voter not signing the back of the ballot envelope. In the 2022 general election, 5,979 mail-in ballots were not counted due to errors.
Here are the primary election mail-in ballot statistics: https://www.nvsos.gov/sos/home/showpublisheddocument/10798/637957441057530000
Here are the general election mail-in ballot statistics: https://www.nvsos.gov/sos/home/showpublisheddocument/11353/638097234357270000
Election and voting issues are contentious this legislative session, so, it may take recommendations from we the people to figure out how to reduce the number of mail-in ballots going uncounted in our elections.
If you have any ideas, election laws and processes are managed by the Legislative Operations and Elections Committees. You can submit ideas to committee members through the Assembly Committee here https://www.leg.state.nv.us/App/NELIS/REL/82nd2023/Committee/394/Overview
And through the Senate Committee here https://www.leg.state.nv.us/App/NELIS/REL/82nd2023/Committee/404/Overview
