Vote Nevada Supporters,
If you would like to meet Alaska Congresswoman Mary Peltola tomorrow morning, January 30th, at 8:30 am via Zoom webinar, please RSVP here: https://vote-nevada.news/Meet-Congresswoman-Peltola
If you cannot attend in person, but you would like to receive a link to the webinar’s recording, please RSVP and I will send the meeting recording link out through the RSVP list as soon as the meeting concludes.
The Carson City Democratic Men’s Committee luncheon speaker tomorrow, 1/30, at 1:30 via Zoom, is Jodi Hocking, the Executive Director of Return Strong. Return Strong started as a group of women with incarcerated loved ones who advocated for transparency and accountability in Nevada’s prisons during the pandemic. The group is continuing to advocate for prison and justice reforms. If you would like the link for the meeting, please email Rich Dunn at richdunn as one word and then @aol.com.
The Legislative Commission Budget Subcommittee continues to meet through February 2nd to hear state agency budgets and the priorities of state agency heads. You can see the calendar of meetings, along with links for live-streaming and each hearing’s agenda, on the Scheduled Meetings page here: https://www.leg.state.nv.us/App/Calendar/A/
If you missed any of the meetings last week or would like to review the recordings of this week’s meetings, you can view meeting recordings here: https://www.leg.state.nv.us/Video/
On Wednesday, February 1st, Hispanics in Politics is focusing on the homeless count and the policy implications of persistent homelessness. The HIP breakfast is at Dona Maria at 910 S. Las Vegas Blvd. More information here https://fb.me/e/5U7WhgiVa
The legislative session starts on February 6th, so, if you haven’t yet attended an advocacy training workshop, the Vote Nevada recorded meetings on how to use the legislative website, how to use Slack, and how to use social media platforms, are all here: https://vote-nevada-blog.org/recorded-advocacy-resources/
There are 907 bill draft requests for this legislative session, so, there are still quite a few bills to be written between now and the February 6th start date. Not all bills will be in full form at the beginning of the session, so, we will need to watch the legislation page on NELIS closely for the next few weeks. https://www.leg.state.nv.us/App/NELIS/REL/82nd2023/Bills/List
You can watch the Governor’s State of the State Address recording here: https://www.leg.state.nv.us/Video/
And you can view the Executive Budget on the Session Info page, about halfway down: https://www.leg.state.nv.us/Session/82nd2023/
