Vote Nevada Update 9/5/2022

Vote Nevada Supporters,

As you know, pumpkin spice season is already here, which means the general election is right around the corner.  If you are interested in some wonky election information, you can watch the Nevada Advisory Committee on Participatory Democracy meeting recording here:

September is filling up with even more events than we saw in August, so, now is the time to mark your calendar with opportunities to connect with your candidates.  Facebook Events is a good place to look for local organizations that are hosting candidate forums and meet and greets.

We do not have as many judicial candidates this cycle as we did in 2020, which thankfully means our mail-in ballots won’t be pages long; but, Vote Nevada continues to recognize how important judicial races are for us all.  So, just like last election cycle, we are inviting judicial candidates to participate in our Video Voter Guide.  Invitations to participate are going out today.

If you missed our “Why Do We Elect Judges?” meeting, you can watch the recording here:

There are three events I would like to highlight for this update:

On September 17th, from 2 to 8 pm, at the Clark County Government Center Amphitheater, at 500 Grand Central Parkway, 89155, a coalition of organizations is hosting a Multicultural Festival that is free and open to the public.  There will be food, music, and live entertainment as well as information about voting and the upcoming election.  Here are the flyers:

On September 24th, the CSN Women’s Alliance is partnering with Nevada Women in Trades to host a summit on nontraditional careers.  The summit is from 9 am to 4 pm at the College of Southern Nevada North Las Vegas Campus, 3200 E. Cheyenne Ave., 89030, in the Student Union Ballroom.

The event includes information and presentations on apprenticeships and CSN nontraditional careers in areas such as light manufacturing.  The focus is on empowering women through good-paying jobs.  You can RSVP here:

Also on September 24th, Vote Nevada, the CSN Women’s Alliance, and Nevada Women in Trades are also hosting a Candidate Forum from 5 to 7 pm.  This will be in the same room as the summit on nontraditional careers, CSN North Las Vegas Campus 3200 Cheyenne Ave., 89030, Student Union Ballroom.

The forum will focus on how civic engagement empowers Nevadans.  Just as a solid paycheck creates power, understanding and engaging in civic processes empowers Nevadans to make change happen.  We are specifically inviting students and anyone who feels like they vote, but nothing changes.  And we are inviting candidates to stop by for our Civic Engagement Open Mic, either in-person or through Zoom.

Candidates can stop by to let us know how they will encourage more civic engagement after being elected.  It is not enough to win elected office, we need elected officials who empower their constituents to take part in governance.

You can RSVP to attend in person here:

You can RSVP to attend via Zoom here:

If you are a candidate who plans to attend, please email me at to ensure we reserve time for you to speak.  It is a short event, so we are reserving 2 minutes per speaker.

Lastly, seeing pumpkin spice everything is already back on the shelves, I am starting my birthday Vote Nevada fundraiser a little bit early too.  We have a busy year ahead with the election and then our legislative session, and while we are very frugal at Vote Nevada, we could use a few donations to keep our efforts going.  If you are so inclined, here is our donate service:

Thank you for being Nevadans with me,
