Vote Nevada Update 8/14/2021

Vote Nevada Supporters,

We had a really good meeting today on running for office as a nonpartisan.  The questions and comments were very informative.  In fact, we decided to run an additional workshop on how to run a campaign for a candidate and a campaign for a ballot question.  September 17th is Constitution Day, so Rodney Smith has agreed to partner again for this additional workshop on September 18th, 9-11:00 am, via Zoom. Before I provide the meeting information from today, I would like to provide some brief updates:

Vote Nevada is meeting with various community groups to introduce the Representable software from the Princeton Gerrymandering team.  Representable allows Nevadans to draw communities of interest maps for the redistricting process. You can view Representable here: https://www.representable.org/  Please let me know if your organization would like a training session.

We would also like to record short interviews with members of our diverse and unique groups to describe our communities of interest orally.  A Voices from Communities of Interest set of short recordings will contribute to our growing base of redistricting resources we can share with legislators.  If you are interested in participating in these recorded interviews, please respond to this email.

And on August 28, 2021, we are hosting a panel to discuss inclusive economic development.  Our panel will be Nevada Grow Counselor Michelle Chan, Nevada System of Higher Education Regent Laura Perkins, Senator Pat Spearman, and Assemblywoman Ellen Spiegel.  We will discuss ways to support small businesses and nonprofits.  You can read more about the Nevada Grow program here: https://www.csn.edu/nvgrow  And you can RSVP for the meeting here: https://us02web.zoom.us/meeting/register/tZEvdumqqDMrGd0QU1Y7KQ19YEwmyJo83U78
