Vote Nevada Update 7/23/2021

Vote Nevada Supporters:

I would like to share this important article about the connection between the body’s response to a viral infection and psychiatric symptoms.  There is growing evidence that inflammation in the brain and the interaction between immune system chemicals and the brain can lead to psychiatric symptoms, including suicide.  It is important for each of us to be aware of these connections as friends and family come through COVID-19 infections.  https://www.cuimc.columbia.edu/news/how-does-covid-affect-mental-health

Here are upcoming events:

Tomorrow, July 24th, 9-10:30 am, via Zoom, our topic is Authentic Coalition Building.  We are discussing how to ensure coalitions include authentic voices from impacted communities and allow strategic decisions to be driven by the participating coalition partners, not outsiders.

The meeting will be broadcast on Facebook Live through the Secretary of State’s Facebook page.  Deputy Secretary of State Mark Wlaschin will review the election-related bills that passed in the 2021 legislative session and their implementation.  This includes AB321. You can review the agenda here: https://www.nvsos.gov/sos/home/showpublisheddocument?id=9617

On Wednesday, August 4th, 6-7:30 pm, via Zoom, our topic is Redistricting Software Training.  We will introduce the redistricting software our legislators will use to draw our district maps in October.  Anyone with a computer will be able to access this software. RSVP: https://us02web.zoom.us/meeting/register/tZEqdOCrrz8vE9wAiqNpCQfLiNzLtLB-uy1-

On Saturday, August 14th, 9-10:30 am, via Zoom, our topic is Running for Office as a Nonpartisan.  We will discuss creating a nonpartisan program to teach Nevadans who do not affiliate with any political party how to run for office.  RSVP: https://us02web.zoom.us/meeting/register/tZEpf-GhrDsoG9IjM0JV9-jmvA0SMXkdXylK

Legislatively, we are waiting for the interim committees to be formed and to start meeting.  There is one committee that aligns with each legislative committee that runs during the interim, so there are opportunities to engage in policy development in-between legislative sessions.  The interim committees, along with their members, will appear on this page: https://www.leg.state.nv.us/App/InterimCommittee/REL/Interim2021/CommitteeList

Once the committees are created and members are appointed, we can begin tracking each committee’s agenda topics and provide constituent input.

Thank you for being Nevadans with me,

Sondra
