AB50: Revises provisions governing the dates for certain city elections
The League of Women Voters of Nevada will testify in favor of AB50 as it requires that all elections be held in the same general election cycle. Election data clearly demonstrates that off-cycle municipal elections regularly attract under 10 percent turnout, while costing taxpayers hundreds of thousands of dollars to administer. Holding municipal elections when voters are not engaged and distracted by the legislative session is also not conducive to representative democracy.
