League Supporters,
On Tuesday, February 26th, at 4 pm, the Assembly Legislative Operations and Elections committee will hear AB186, which, if enacted, makes Nevada a member of the National Popular Vote Compact.
It is the official position of the League of Women Voters US to support the National Popular Vote Compact as a method to achieve the direct-popular election of the President and Vice Present, therefore, League of Women Voters of Nevada will be speaking in favor of AB186.
You can learn more about the National Popular Vote Compact here: https://www.nationalpopularvote.com/
If you would like to also support the League’s position on the National Popular Vote Compact through an email to the committee members or testimony during the hearing, our position is:
Yes on AB186
The League of Women Voters believes that the direct-popular-vote method for electing the President and Vice-President is essential to representative government. The League of Women Voters believes, therefore, that the Electoral College should be abolished. We support the use of the National Popular Vote Compact as one acceptable way to achieve the goal of the direct popular vote for election of the president until the abolition of the Electoral College is accomplished.
