Election 2020 Update: October 1, 2020

Here is the latest information from the Clark County Election Department:

October 6th is the last day for a voter to register or update their registration record through the mail or DMV.  After this date, the voter will need a Nevada DMV Driver’s License or ID to register online or in person.  NEW RESIDENTS – Please make sure you register by October 6th if you do not have a Nevada ID or Driver’s License.

SAMPLE BALLOTS – We have begun mailing the sample ballots!  All active voters will receive a sample ballot in the mail soon.

E-SAMPLE BALLOTS – All active voters that elected to receive an e-sample ballot should have already received it in their email. 

REGISTER TO VOTE OR UPDATE YOUR REGISTRATION BEFORE 5:30pm on OCTOBER 6, 2020 – You can register or update your registration online at www.RegistertoVoteNV.gov or mail in an application.  You can visit us at our Election Center location at 965 Trade Drive, Suite A, North Las Vegas, NV 89030 from Monday through Thursday; 7:30am to 5:30pm. 

MAIL BALLOTS & INFORMATIONAL SUPPLEMENT – We will begin to mail out the mail ballots and supplement to all active voters on October 7, 2020.  If you wish to vote by mail and you do not receive it by October 17th, please contact us as 702-455-8683 or 702-455-6552.

MAIL BALLOT DROP OFF SITES – Although we will be using voting machines at our Early Voting and Election Day locations, we encourage voters to vote by mail with the prepaid envelope we supplied or turn in their voted mail ballot in person at any Early Voting site, Election Day site, or directly to our Election Center Office.  See attached listing for more details.

LAST DAY OF ONLINE REGISTRATION – October 15th is the last day for a voter to register or update their registration record online at www.RegistertoVoteNV.gov.  Must have NV ID or Driver’s License.

EARLY VOTING – begins 10/17-10/30/2020; all Early Voting sites are mail ballot drop off site also.  EARLY VOTING BROCHURES are available for those that would like to hand them out during your outreach events.  Please contact Julie Chapman at 702-455-6632 to make the arrangements to pick up the quantities you need.

ELECTION DAY – November 3, 2020; see attached listing of over 100 Vote Center locations.  All Election Day sites are mail ballot drop off sites also.  Election Day Location/Map brochures will be available soon, but let Julie Chapman know if you would like to pick up any for your events.

Nevada Driver’s License/ID Card Renewals Now Available Online
Thousands are eligible for a new online service delivered ahead of schedule
CARSON CITY – Most Nevadans with driver’s licenses or identifications cards that expired during the COVID-19 pandemic are now eligible to renew online at the Nevada DMV’s website, dmvnv.com. “As many as 75,000 Nevadans can use this service right now,” said DMV Director Julie Butler.  “Enabling drivers to skip the trip to the DMV not only helps them, it will help the DMV serve those who need car registrations or other services much more quickly.”Butler emphasized that drivers who renew online should cancel their office visit after they renew.  “It’s crucial to cancel your appointment.


It will make these new services a win-win for everyone,” she said. Most drivers age 16 to 70, and ID card holders of all ages, can take advantage of the new services if their expiration date is March 12, 2020, or later.  Nevadans who qualify can renew online even if they have received a postcard stating that an in-person renewal is required.  Renewed cards will be mailed using the customer’s existing photograph.   Nevadans who received a four-year card at their last renewal will receive an eight-year card if they are under 65 at the time of renewal. Fees are $42.25 for a driver’s license and $22.25 for an ID card.  Late fees are being waived through January 31, 2021.   

Cards that are not eligible include Instruction Permits, Commercial Driver’s Licenses, Driver Authorization Cards and any license or ID with a term of less than four years. Drivers with more than three moving violations since their last renewal also will not qualify. See the DMV website for a full list of qualifications. For drivers 65 and older, a one-year license extension remains in effect to give these Nevadans more time to schedule a DMV office visit.  An extension for all licenses and ID cards remains in effect through November 12. The new services, originally scheduled for mid-October, were placed online ahead of schedule on Monday, September 21. 691 renewals were completed the first day.
The programming was completed by the DMV’s in-house IT staff with no special appropriations or outside contract required. Online license/ID renewals are a permanent addition to DMV online services.  As many as 100,000 Nevadans will be eligible in 2021 and each year thereafter, providing lasting reductions in the number of required DMV office visits throughout the state.

(Carson City, NV; September 22, 2020) – Today, the Nevada Secretary of State Elections Division announces a new service that allows voters to track the status of their mail ballot – when it is mailed to them, when it is received by the county, and when it has been counted.  This free service is provided to Nevada voters for the first time through a partnership between the Elections Division and BallotTrax.  As a leader in mail ballot locator and notification systems, BallotTrax already provides ballot tracking services to voters in many other states.

In order to sign up for ballot tracking for the 2020 general election, Nevada voters should visit https://nevada.ballottrax.net and register for the service, which is free.  Once registered, voters can select how they want to receive ballot tracking alerts:  text message, email, or voice call.  Voters can also set the hours during which they would like to receive ballot tracking alerts.  To manage preferences, voters can sign in to the website at any time to change their selected notification methods, turn off notifications, or modify contact hours.

“Due to the significant number of voters we anticipate will vote by mail this election, including many voters who will be casting a mail ballot for the first time, the Elections Division decided to make ballot tracking a priority,” said Wayne Thorley, Deputy Secretary of State for Elections.  “Voters are used to buying something online and then tracking the package from the retail outlet to their doorstep.  We can now offer this same service, and the peace of mind that comes with it, to voters who vote by mail.”

The only information that is required to sign up for ballot tracking is the voter’s first and last name, date of birth, and zip code.  Voters are not required to provide their Social Security number or driver’s license number in order to sign up for ballot tracking.  In addition to signing up for ballot tracking, Nevada voters can always verify the status of their ballot by visiting the Secretary of State’s registered voter services website.

Pursuant to Assembly Bill 4 from the 32nd Special Session of the Nevada Legislature, all active registered voters in Nevada will receive a ballot in the mail for the 2020 general election.  Voters can see the date on which ballots will be mailed to registered voters in their county by visiting the Secretary of State’s website.  Voters who prefer to vote in person rather than vote by mail can do so.  Early voting and Election Day polling locations can be found on the Secretary of State’s website.  Early voting begins on October 17 and runs through October 30.  Election Day is November 3.
