Water Resources

Thanks to everyone who came to our meeting on Water, Drought, and Urban planning. We learned A LOT in just an hour thanks to the great presentations by Southern Nevada Water Authority’s Bronson Mack and Great Basin Water Network’s Howard Watts III.

I’ve added the resources discussed today to a new feature on our webpage. Through Storify we can now add website links and other social media posts directly to our committee pages; so I’ve added the water resource links to our Environmental Committee.

We’ll be doing this for all of our committees as we move forward with our efforts to keep the Las Vegas Valley informed and ready to improve our community.

Update: Our Oct. 17th Meeting was a huge success!

Dear League Supporters:

Thanks very much to everyone who participated in our silent auction and roundtable meeting. Without the hard work of our members and board members we’d be lost, so I’d like to specifically thank them.

Thanks to Beverly Abderrahman, her daughter, and her granddaughter, who worked their magic creating the beautiful baskets and gift arrangements, and who provided us with the yummy home-cooked breakfast. Thanks also to Kathleen Bienenstein, Bonnie Swadling, Betty Pardo, and Ann Smith for working so hard to gather the items for bid.  And thanks to Jan Biggerstaff for helping to manage the auction process.

Special thanks go out to our member Linda Miller who donated most of the fabulous items in our auction. Without her dedication and giving heart our League would be much poorer in spirit and funds.

Linda is also a dedicated supporter of the Mormon Fort, so I wanted to let you all know about two exciting events happening soon. The first is next weekend, Saturday Oct. 24th, to celebrate Nevada Day and Halloween.

If you would like to watch the meeting on the computer, if you log into the Legislative website tomorrow there should be a view link under the time.

I will be working with our wonderful table experts over the next week or so to curate reliable sources on each topic and possibly create some short videos. As soon as I have all the information compiled, I will post it on our website and blog and will send out an email with links.

Thanks again for all your support,

League of Women Voters LVV Legislative Mentoring Day

On Saturday July 25th legislative leaders Assemblyman Paul Anderson, Senator Aaron Ford, Assemblyman Erven Nelson, Senator Joyce Woodhouse, Assemblyman Nelson Araujo, Senator Patricia Farley, and Public Defender Steve Yeager took time out of their busy lives to meet with members of our Youth Committee.  This one-on-one mentoring time was an invaluable gift and we thank these great Nevadans for their commitment to making our state a better place.
