Vote Nevada Supporters,
Regarding the Candidate Showcase events for the three Board of Trustee districts up for election this year, our first District D event is this Thursday, May 5th, from 5:30 to 7:30 pm, at the East Las Vegas Library, 2851 East Bonanza Rd. 89101.
All candidates in District D have agreed to participate, this includes, Irene Cepeda, Brenda Zamora, Fernando Romero, Steven Conger, and Tavorra Elliott.
During the Showcase, each candidate will have space in the room with a table. Attendees will be divided among the candidates to have a nearly equal-size attendee group at each table. The candidates will decide how to engage with each group, which could include a brief speech with questions and answer or could include just questions and answers.
We will give each group of attendees a set amount of time with each candidate and when the time ends the groups will rotate to another table. This process will repeat until every group of attendees has had an opportunity to meet with each candidate.
We are stressing civility and productive dialogue and will expect that every participant will treat every other participant respectfully.
To enhance our time together, I’ve created a short video explainer of what a school board trustee does: https://vote-nevada.news/What-Do-Trustees-Do
Our second and third Candidate Showcase events will replicate this process.
You can determine if you live in one of the school trustee districts up for election, which are D, F, and G, through this map: https://www.ccsd.net/trustees/pdf/maps/2021-2022/DZG-96141-Trustee-Districts.pdf
Here are flyers for each Showcase. Please feel free to share if you know someone who lives in one of these districts.
Opportunity to hear from the sheriff candidates about mental health:
We have confirmed that at least two of our sheriff candidates will join our Behavioral and Mental Health Committee on May 17th, from 6 to 7 pm (we will extend the meeting to 7:30 if the third candidate responds) via Zoom.
We have asked each candidate to spend 20 minutes explaining his plan to address our mental health crisis and then answer questions for 10 minutes. Email info@vote-nevada.org to RSVP and receive the Zoom link.
Thank you for being Nevadans with me,
Sondra
