The League of Women Voters of Nevada supports SB123, same-day voter registration, with the caveat that the legislature must provide our county clerks and registrars with the resources needed to manage the program with security and efficiency as the top two priorities.  Nevada’s voters just passed automatic voter registration, which requires purchasing new technology and making changes to how we manage voter registration.  Adding same-day registration will require additional procedural changes and possibly additional expenditures that must be funded.

Nevada ranks high nation-wide in election security and efficiency, so it is our position that we must vigorously defend this national standing by handling changes to voter registration and voting carefully.

SB123: AN ACT relating to elections; authorizing an elector to register to vote on the day of certain elections at certain polling places; setting forth requirements for such registration; authorizing county and city clerks to extend the period for early voting; making various other changes relating to elections; and providing other matters properly relating thereto
