We had a great League of Women Voters of Southern Nevada meeting November 18th! Thanks to everyone who attended. Please find below: information about the Friends of the Nevada State Museum volunteer program, about the school mascot’s presentation, and about a screening of the documentary More Than A Word.
Please be aware that only presidents of the League of Women Voters or their designees may officially speak for League; so if you are willing to help with projects, please be sure to indicate that you are speaking for yourself.
If you are interested in helping with the school mascot issue, there are two CCSD schools that are inappropriately using Native American symbols, Western High School and J.D. Smith Middle school.

When contacting your Trustee, please consider these best practices for email advocacy:
State your position succinctly in the subject line, such as “Please change culturally inappropriate mascots”
In the body of your statement, state that you are a constituent and then two to three argument points with references to research and/or data. We’ve provided research in the attachments, but feel free to do further, independent research.
You can see a screening of More Than A Word at the Progressive Summit on January 27th at the College of Southern Nevada. More information will be coming soon.
