Vote Nevada Supporters,
One week from today, we are hosting three events featuring Katie Fahey, the young woman who spearheaded Michigan’s successful independent redistricting commission ballot initiative.
Katie is a founder of the new nonprofit Respect Voters. This new organization aims to protect and expand the ballot initiative process nationwide. You can watch Katie’s TED Talk here: https://youtu.be/oIAQcvewgTg?si=QfWk8JDypoEQY6de
The ballot petition process traces its direct democracy ideological roots back to the very beginning of our country. The initiative, the referendum, and the recall became widespread anti-corruption tools just over one hundred years ago when Progressive reformers viewed this trio as an effective counterbalance to Gilded Age political corruption.
Nevadans established the initiative, referendum, and recall as constitutional rights by amending them into our state constitution in the early 1900s.
Katie’s new organization, Respect Voters, aims to protect the right to run and vote on ballot initiatives in states where it exists and to establish the right to run and vote on ballot initiatives in states where it does not. https://www.respectvoters.org/

Please indicate if you’d like to participate in the Respect Voters planning meeting after the first event, either in-person or virtually via Zoom.
