Vote Nevada Update: 6/10/2023

Vote Nevada Supporters,

Thank you to everyone who attended our Legislative Roundup this morning.  We reviewed legislative vocabulary, talked about the three actions the Governor can take on bills, and discussed how to find individual bills and categories of bills.

For the last 1/3 of the meeting, we discussed how to start working now to pass bills that died this session in the 2025 legislative session.  You can watch the recording here: https://vote-nevada.news/Legislative-Roundup-Recording

I will send out a separate email tomorrow with Monday’s Carson City Democrats luncheon speaker and information about the special session.

On Monday, June 12, 2023, from 6 to 7 pm, we will discuss Assembly Bill 528, which passed. This is the bill that dedicates $200 million to addressing homelessness based on the San Antonio Haven of Hope model.  You can see the San Antonio campus here: https://www.havenforhope.org/

Vote Nevada is especially concerned about chronic homelessness and how the Haven of Hope model provides mental health services.  We know Nevada has a mental health provider shortage, so, we would like to know how this new program will help our homeless neighbors who need mental health services now.

You can RSVP for this discussion on June 12th here: https://vote-nevada.news/AB528-Addressing-Chronic-Homelessness

On Saturday, June 17, 2023, from 9 to 10 am, we will be kicking off our Sports Equity project.  The WNBA is hosting the Women’s All Stars Game in Las Vegas on July 15th, so we are planning to raise awareness about the issues of pay and media coverage parity between men’s and women’s sports between now and July 15th

If you are interested in joining this effort, the Aces have games tomorrow, June 11th, and Thursday, June 15th, so we can start posting on social media during these two games.

There are many reliable articles and stories online about pay inequities and the media providing less coverage of women’s sports and the connection between the two.  Posting these articles and stories online with the hashtags #PayParity #MediaParity and #ALLINLV will make this information viewable by WNBA and Aces fans.

Here is the Sports Equity strategic plan draft we will review and edit on June 17thhttps://vote-nevada.news/Womens-Sports-Equity-Strategic-Plan

You can RSVP for the Sports Equity planning session on June 17th, 9 to 10 am, here: https://vote-nevada.news/Womens-Sports-Equity

On Saturday, June 17th, 2023, from 4 to 5 pm, via Zoom, we will also discuss the American Disabilities Act and how to be an ally by encouraging public and private entities to bring their experiences, infrastructure, and materials into ADA compliance.  You can RSVP for this meeting here: https://vote-nevada.news/ADA-Compliance

If you are in Northern Nevada, Lucia Starbuck from KUNR is hosting another Pints and Purple Politics with Sec. of State Cisco Aguilar and Treasurer Zach Conine on June 14th from 6 to 8 pm.  More information, including the free tickets, is here: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/kunr-pints-and-purple-politics-secretary-of-state-treasurer-roundtable-tickets-638998109547?utm-campaign=social&utm-content=attendeeshare&utm-medium=discovery&utm-term=listing&utm-source=cp&aff=escb
